30 Links in 30 Days Linkbuilding Campaign - Day 10 - Blip.TV

Blip is Big

Blip.TV is one of those online video sharing sites that could be termed one of the dwarfs, aka Snow White and the (how many?) Dwarfs--Snow White being YouTube, of course. Along with many other sites that could be mentioned (but why bother), Blip.TV has a special place for a few reasons.

Google Loves Blip.TV

Google really, really loves this video site, even though the functionality is not all that great, or rather a mixed bag. The website navigation is atrocious. However the player is not bad and videos tend to load fairly quickly... at least some of the time. Still, somebody loves this baby, and Google is its name.

Blip.TV has Viewers

Try this experiment. Create a free account on Tube Mogul (my favorite video uploader tool, although Google's Picasa can now upload video to YouTube, and that works pretty well, too). Then create accounts on all the free-to-upload sites. Which ones play your videos more has a lot to do with the categories, tags, title and description chosen and each sites demographics (and auto-play features). Um, sounds a lot like SEO. Now you are getting it. Blip.TV tends to bunch at the top of the pack for video plays.

Blip.TV has subdomain profile URLs

SEO of Blip.TV video sharing profiles are fairly straightforward. Configure the profile, upload the videos, and more importantly link to your blip.tv profile. This part seems to be forgotten by many folks. Creating an account on a social media or social network site is only 1/3 of the work. The other 2/3rds includes creating and updating content regularly, and finally creating links that help elevate that page. After all, PageRank accrues to pages (and to sites) so the page (and site) must be getting that linkjuice to thrive and create the harvest of outbound linkjuice, visitors, and SERP ranking to dominate results.

Blip.TV has follow links

Ok, now we are getting somewhere. Follow links, the linkjuice fountain, the spice that must flow. Nicely Blip.TV also supports Anchor text. Yum!
