404s and 301s – Missing Links and Link Redirection
The first step of link building is to make sure that incoming links already created are working to deliver the proper value in terms of PageRank and visitors. Review of the 404 logs on a site (“page not found”) and the creation of 301 redirectors (having pages sought redirect to the correct location) is important and a simple task, especially when using the Apache web server and WordPress.
