Search Engine Ranking by Country

It pays only to pay attention to the most important search engines. The main reason is the same power-law and network effects that attain for the top ranking in a given search and the frequency distribution of searches themselves. It’s a winner-take-most situation. Who is the predominant leader in search?

OpenDNS DNS Server IP Addresses

We’ve had problems with getting to certain sites using the relatively mediocre Internet service provided by 3BB here in Chiang Mai, Thailand. A friend of ours suggested using OpenDNS and confirmed that the DNS servers inside of Thailand are execrable.

Here are the OpenDNS DNS Server IP Addresses that seem to work as of 11-11-10:

  • 208.67.222.222
  • 208.67.220.220

Facebook SEO & SEM

Facebook SEO & SEM

There is both Facebook SEO (optimizing a Facebook page for search) as well as Facebook SEM (paid search or pay per click advertising on Facebook). As Facebook now has 500m accounts, there is a very large market which can be targeted quite handily with the two-part process of Facebook SEO and SEM.

Usability and Web Fonts

Usability is not just about user interaction but has a lot to do with user access. As such, Flash should be considered dead to the designer and developer. Pay Per Click

Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising

Pay Per Click is a form of advertising which is a vast improvement over pay per impression, which was and is still the dominant way to price advertising. With Pay Per Click the buyer gets actual visitors (though there is not a 1-to-1 correlation with clicks and visitors). However, there are a lot of details to consider when buying Pay Per Click advertising, otherwise a lot of money can quickly go to waste.

SEO Experts

SEO Chiangmai is an expert in SEO and SEM in Thailand and globally. We were recently asked by TopSEOs to fill out our SEO Thailand profile, even though frankly we will not pay for a directory listing or to be ranked. Unfortunately TopSEOs myopically doesn’t have a Thailand or other Asia, or better, a Southeast Asia geographical category. Nonetheless, they do provide the potentially valuable service of having one place to list our competitors (and their largely fictitious company data). Quite frankly, if the customer web search does not yield a result in the top few rankings, then this is not an SEO worth their weight in clickthroughs.
